Good morning,
This week we are seeing a major focus on supporting our farmers and simplifying rules for businesses across Europe. From new funding to delayed deadlines, the EU is making moves to ease the burden on everyday operations. Let's dive into what these changes mean for you.
A boost for the fields
Farmers are getting some much-needed financial support. The EU is rolling out a plan with €540 million to help with rising costs, especially for plant food. To learn more about this cash boost, check out the EU fertiliser financial relief proposal. At the same time, the EU is changing how we grow crops. New rules will make it easier to use advanced science to breed stronger, climate-friendly plants. You can read about how this works in the update on the EU genomic techniques rules.
Food labels are also getting a makeover to protect traditional farming. Under new rules, plant-based foods can no longer use terms like "steak" or "bacon" on their packaging. For details on these new naming rules, take a look at the EU food supply chain rules.
Easier trade and less paperwork
Good news is also coming for companies that trade across borders and deal with chemicals. First, the EU and the US are cutting down on extra costs. Parliament is preparing to remove most duties on goods shipped between the two regions, which you can read about in the EU-US tariff elimination agreement.
On top of that, chemical and cosmetic businesses are getting a lot more time to adjust to labeling laws. The deadline for these complex rules has been pushed back to 2030, which is explained in the EU chemical packaging and labelling simplification.
