Water Efficiency

Water is a shared, finite resource – and managing it efficiently is essential for operational resilience, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability. For many sectors, water risk is not just an environmental issue but a material business concern.

Water efficiency means using less water to achieve the same result – whether in industrial processes, buildings, agriculture, or supply chains. But it’s also about quality, reuse, and managing the full water cycle to reduce waste, pollution, and stress on local ecosystems.

Why it matters:
Water risks, from scarcity to contamination, are rising globally. Regulators, investors, and major buyers are beginning to ask tougher questions about how companies manage water, especially in high-risk areas. At the same time, improving water efficiency can reduce costs, lower emissions (through reduced heating/pumping), and build community trust.

What water management typically involves:

  • Mapping your water use across sites, processes, and products
  • Identifying hotspots for consumption and discharge
  • Setting targets to reduce intake, improve quality, and increase reuse
  • Tracking progress with KPIs aligned to frameworks like CDP Water or CEO Water Mandate
