About me
I am a biodiversity expert with over 15 years of experience in nature protection and an active researcher specializing in the study of changes in plant communities under anthropogenic impacts such as climate change, eutrophication, and plant invasions. My research focuses on understanding how these factors influence ecosystem dynamics and biodiversity. I have extensive experience in biodiversity monitoring, preparing conservation plans and measures for Natura 2000 sites and natural habitats, and conducting environmental impact assessments (primarily for the mining, real estate, and tourism industries). Additionally, I am skilled in scientific writing and editing, with co-authorship of over 35 scientific papers, ensuring clear and accurate communication of complex ecological data. My professional background can support sustainable practices by raising ecological awareness among stakeholders and translating research into actionable strategies that align with environmental and ESG goals.

Assistant Professor | Biological sciences | Botany & Vegetation Ecology
University of Wrocław, PolandEducationFull-TimeFeb/2017 – Feb/2024
My main responsibilities included:
- Conducting research and publishing results in international journals
- Participating in conferences to share findings and stay updated on the latest developments in my field.
- Teaching – I developed and taught nearly 20 different, covering topics such as plant systematics, botany, nature conservation, and conservation law.
- Supervising graduation theses, guiding students on projects that explored strategies of invasive plant species (e.g., tree of heaven) and the compositional changes in forest communities over time.
Expert | Preparation of protection plans for Natura 2000 sites
National Foundation of Environmental Protection, PolandGovernment & StatesConsultancyApr/2021 – Jul/2022
My main responsibilities included:
- Co-authoring expert opinions on mountain and rocky habitats (6110, 8150, 8160, 8210, 8220) and plant species (4066) for the protection plan of the PLH020037 Natura 2000 site.
- Co-authoring expert opinions on forest habitats (9110, 9130, 9150, 9170, 9180, 9190, 91E0, 91I0) for the protection plan of the PLH020037 Natura 2000 site.
- Co-authoring expert opinions on mountain and rocky habitats (6170, 6110, 8210, 8220, 8160) for the protection plan of the PLH020016 Natura 2000 site.
- Co-authoring expert opinions on forest habitats (9110, 9130, 9140, 9180, 91E0, 9410) for the protection plan of the PLH020016 Natura 2000 site.
These expert opinions included detailed assessments of the current distribution and conservation status of specific habitats and plant species. The most crucial aspect of this work was the formulation of conservation measures aimed at maintaining or improving the condition of these habitats and species. These measures are designed to be incorporated into other planning documents and to guide the actions of various entities operating within each area.
Expert | Monitoring of natural habitats and species protected in Natura 2000 sites
Institute of Nature Conservation PAS, PolandGovernment & StatesConsultancy2008 – Now
I have been actively involved in monitoring natural habitats and species protected in Natura 2000 sites in Poland. My experience includes serving as a local expert, conducting monitoring studies at designated sites, and assessing the conservation status of habitats and species populations using standardized methodologies. I have extensive experience in monitoring forest habitats, including beech forests (9110, 9130, 9140, 9150), oak forests (9190, *91I0), subalpine spruce forests (9410), and ravine forests (*9180), as well as non-forest habitats such as rocky slopes vegetation (8210, 8220), hydrophilous tall-herb communities (6430), low deciduous scrub communities (4060), and grasslands (6210).
Between 2009 and 2015, I co-authored the development of monitoring methodologies for habitats 6110, 6130, 8210, 8230, 40A0, and 9110 in Poland, contributing to methodological handbooks that are now standard references for monitoring studies (see here). These guidelines are widely used by nature conservation authorities and other entities, such as the State Forests, to assess the condition of natural habitats.
In 2014, I became the national coordinator for the habitat 91I0 Euro-Siberian steppic woods with Quercus spp. I also co-authored three reports to fulfill Poland's obligations for the Bilateral Biogeographical Seminar for the Continental Region (Warsaw, April 2010):
- 2011: Quality control of natural habitat 6210 Semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on calcareous substrates in area PLH020034.
- 2011: Quality control of natural habitat 91P0 Holy Cross fir forests (Abietetum polonicum) in proposed Natura 2000 sites.
- 2012: Development of monitoring methodology and assessment of habitat 6130 and other heavy metalliferous soil habitats in the Sudety Mountains (area PLH020011).
In summary, I am highly skilled in monitoring forest and semi-natural non-forest habitats of Annex I of Directive 92/43/ECC, with expertise in field surveys, methodology development, detailed analysis, and reporting of conservation status, as well as in the coordination of monitoring activities.
Expert | Phytosociological Inventory
Bureau for Forest Management and Geodesy State Enterprise, PolandGovernment & StatesConsultancyApr/2014 – Jun/2018
I was involved in conducting phytosociological inventories for three forest districts in Southern Poland, which included:
- Collecting phytosociological data to document plant community composition.
- Creating the maps of actual vegetation.
- Classifying forest communities according to natural habitats listed in Annex I of the Habitat Directive.
- Assessing the conservation status of forest natural habitats to determine their current condition.
